The place
Serra Grande lies on the Costa do Cacau, in southern Bahia, where the Atlantic Forest reaches the sea and rivers wind through the landscape towards quiet beaches and waterfalls. This is cacao country, shaped by Bahian food, deep-rooted traditions and a local life that remains remarkably present.
Set within 62.5 hectares (154 acres) of private land, 50 of them kept as forest, with just six houses across the estate, days here unfold naturally: walking through the forest, swimming in the sea, crossing the river, following a path with no particular destination.
The landscape is abundant, but much of what makes Serra Grande distinctive is found in its people, in their knowledge of the land and in a particular, generous way of receiving others.
Serra Grande offers a rare way of experiencing Bahia: unhurried, deeply connected to place and with the freedom to discover it at your own pace.

This property was dreamed into being, built and cared for over many years. Now, it welcomes those who arrive while preserving the character, beauty and sense of place that make Serra Grande what it is.
Where you sleep

Built in mass timber and thatch by Bahian craftsmen, the houses sit quietly among the palms, with a sense of permanence and belonging. Each one opens to the garden on one side and the sea on the other, creating an effortless connection between the interiors and the landscape.
Every detail was conceived around the experience of being here: the light, the breeze, the sound of the ocean, the intimacy of the spaces. The result is a house that feels deeply refined, yet entirely at ease in its surroundings.
They come in three sizes — one house of a single suite, three of two and two of three — so a family can take one house or the whole estate.
Discovery
A map of the constellations visible above Serra Grande throughout the year, accompanied by a telescope for nights when the sky invites a closer look.
Discreet labels among the trees, palms and bromeliads reveal their common and scientific names, along with a detail worth noticing. Less a botanical guide than an invitation to pay closer attention.
An illustrated guide in each room introduces the birds, mammals, amphibians and insects that share this landscape, making the life around the house easier to recognise.
Every ingredient carries a story: where it comes from, who grows it and when it is at its best. Different varieties of cacao, cassava and pepper sit alongside forest fruits, native ingredients and local herbs.
The people who look after the house — gardeners, cooks, hosts and guides, most of them from Serra Grande — hold much of what can be understood about this place. Their experience and their stories are part of how it is discovered.
Beyond the gate: the fishermen, the cacao growers, the cooks and makers of Serra Grande, whose work becomes part of a stay. A sense of place is inseparable from the people who have shaped it over generations.

The estate
Beyond the houses, the estate itself: trails left open, biodiversity worth stopping for, interpretive signs along the way, cultivation, and food that comes from the territory around it.
